I thought I knew what I wanted in a wedding dress and ordered one off line. Unfortunately it was too short in the body and would not look right. The larger size only got wider instead of longer. It appeared the dress was not in the cards for me.
So I started again looking in numerous wedding dress catalogs and online designers. Again I thought I had a pretty good idea of what I thought would look good on my shape. When it came down to finally go bridal shopping with my matron of honor and bridesmaids they told me that it's always the dress you least expect. I pish poshed this idea trying on multiple dresses that I "thought" I liked. None of the dresses fit or looked right on me.
My matron of honor took things into her own hands and started bringing in multiple styles of dresses for me to try on regardless of how hideous I found them on the hanger. And this is how I found this one in the picture. I like it a lot....and after trying on several hundred pounds of satin, lace and crinoline I'm fairly certain it's the one. I'm just afraid that I look too old to pull off the style. I got a unanimous vote from my bridal party that it's the one for me...BUT...since it's not anything like I originally thought I wanted...I'm in doubt. What do you think fellow bees?? Please let me know what you think.
If you know in your heart that you will not feel "right" in the dress, that's your answer! You do NOT want to spend your wedding day with some kind of age complex!
That said, I think the dress is perfect for you. It's soo figure flattering but isn't "trying" to be sexy. It's not all embellished/flashy. It is current, but the details are common enough that it doesn't read as trendy. If you can be happy in it on your wedding day, it would be a great choice!
This dress looks BEAUTIFUL on you! Why would you second guess it? It doesn't look like your trying to be younger at all. All I see is a grown woman in a beautiful dress! A dress that fits your figure perfectly. Get the dress you feel beautiful in and don't look back. :)
I don't think it so at all, you look great in it. But you still have to go with your gut feeling. If you don't feel comfortable in it, keep looking. But if you feel good in it, then get it before it's gone!
I kinda went through the same thing, I had this idea of what I wanted and the dress I ended up loving was something completly different. I think this looks so good on you...and age has nothing to do with anything as long as you love it ROCK IT! Best wishes!
1) Your maids are right - this dress looks great on you =)
2) You are not to old to wear this style (Im 40 and I would wear it!)
3) You want to feel beautiful and confident on your wedding day so if for any reason you are not comfortable in this dress, you should find the one that is right for you
Thank you Bee's for all of your supportive comments and well wishes! I DO LOVE the dress, just wanted to make sure that I wasn't the only one that thought that way!
I'm so glad you posted this - I'm going through a similar dilemna!! I'll be 40 by my day and love a dress that is very "young". Now I think I'm gonna go for it... :)
Oh honey, i could only HOPE to look that good at 40. Seriously, it looks fantastic, and does NOT read too "young". The style is updated and not stuffy, youthful, but not "sexy" or "couture", and the details aren't too ornate. I think it's perfect!
@JaniceP72...I'm not doing the veil...I feel I'm past that point. I do want to do a pretty half-up-do and have some pretty sparkling pins in my hair for some bling.
