- Wedding: July 2014
I should start by saying that my and my fiance’s favorite color is blue, so when it came time to choose a color for our wedding, blue seemed to be the obvious choice. .. BUT, when it comes to blue flowers, I am not a huge fan. So I’ve been trying to figure out what colors to use in our flowers that will compliment a blue color scheme. I started with very bright colors (orange and magentas), but J wasn’t a huge fan. He expressed a dislike for red, so I had stayed away from the color, but then he also decided that he really didn’t like pink either.. so, it was back to the drawing board. I made a bouquet with orange and white flowers, because I love orange roses, but I didn’t really like how it looked. I tried again with purple, since J seemed to be okay with purple, but still wasn’t 100% sure. I tried with yellow, and felt like I was maybe getting somewhere, and J seemed a bit more enthusiastic, and so, my floral color scheme seemed to be decided.
Working with white, green, and yellow flowers, I got to work practicing my bouquet-making skills. My first attempt, I used white mums, white roses, yellow spray roses, blue thistles, and snow-on-the-mountain.
I really liked the result of these, and felt like maybe I’d finally found my flowers…. until I found out that I’m apparently allergic to the snow-on-the-mountain (greenery), which plays a huge role in the arrangements. So, I wasn’t sure what to do. I suppose I could wear gloves, but it still feels risky..
So I decided to try again using different flowers. Unfortunately, since it was slightly later in the season, my options were getting smaller, so ended up with an almost entirely different mix. This time, I was working with white Matsumoto aster, white roses, solidago (yellow), and chamomile.
I really like these too! (though I think I may ditch the solidago in favor of something more green or white). I also love the idea of using the chamomile and solidago as small bouquets to hang from the chairs along the aisle.
Anyways, what I really want is opinions. My fiance just keeps telling me things like “yeah, it’s good” and “I trust you to know what looks good” and all sorts of other vague things, which are the opposite of helpful. I really don’t want to spend too much more money practicing, but I really want to nail down exactly what I’m going to do so that I’ll know exactly what I need. I’m thinking I may try again (I’m sorta addicted to flower arranging now), but with chrysanthemums or dahlias and garden roses – since I think the larger flowers will go a long way and make the bouquets look fuller. Also wondering if I should incorporate more pops of yellow.
Any advice? ideas? opinions? I feel like all this indecisiveness is going to drive me crazy! Help please?
