This is my first DIY post so I hope you guys like it!
I got this idea from an etsy seller who had made similar magnets that were super cute, however they were out of my budget. Also, I feel awesome knowing I can tell everyone I made them myself!
I’m not done with them yet, still waiting on the little magenets I ordered to come in so I can glue them to the back, but I just couldn’t wait to post them!!!
I absolutely love them and I am so proud of myself. Although I only have 20 done which took me about 3 hours (ugg) and I have a total of 100 to do.
The first one was the hardest because I had never used a woodburning pen before so I didn’t really know what I was doing. At first I wrote on the heart in pencil so I could trace it with the woodburner but that ended up to difficult so after doing the first one that way I just “winged” it with the woodburner. After doing a couple like that it was easy to know exactly where to start and how big to make the letters so I didn’t run out of room. The biggest tip is to go slow. The slower you move the pen the nicer the burn. If you go too fast you end up having to go over it again which just wastes time. Hopefully the next 80 or so will go much faster since I’ve gotten the hang of it.
Here’s a look at the finished heart with the “pre-burnt” heart so you can see the difference. I burnt the edges as you can see and the little burnt “lines” were acutally an accident on one when I hit it with the pen but I liked how it made it look more like birch tree bark so I went with it!
Here’s my supply list and where you can get everything:
Wood Hearts: craftparts.com 125, 4 1/2″ country hearts (I ordered extra to have some I could mess up on) $38.75 + nominal shipping
(I also ordered some rectangular wood pieces from here so make my table numbers with the woodburner as well)
Wood Burning Pen: Amazon.com $20.00 (you can also get one at Michaels)
Magnets: 100 3/4″ round magnets from eBay seller “hooties-bargains”: $10.00
E6000 glue to glue on magnents (recommended by eBay seller): Walmart $5.00
Total to make 100 Heart Magnents: $73.75
(To buy 100 it would have been $350 on etsy!!!)
I have also ordered Wood Grain paper from lcipaper.com which we are using to print our own “Guest Information” enclosure to be sent with them and I also ordered clear vellum envelopes from the same site to mail them in. Total for the paper and envelopes was $50 but the paper was only in packs of 50 sheets of 11×17 and we can get 6 enclosure cards on one sheet so we’ll have a lot left over and we’re using the same paper to print our invitations to go in our pocketfolds (that will be another huge project!) I think the wood heart showing out the back of the clear envelope will look super cute when my guests get it in the mail 🙂
I haven’t figured how much postage will be, probably a little extra but i think it’s worth it!!
Let me know what you think!
