- Wedding: October 2013
Here she is! I think this has been my favorite DIY project so far. I knew I didn’t want traditional paper programs, since 1. the majority of them get tossed, and 2. I just didn’t want to spend anymore money on paper products. I plan to hang this in our dining room after the wedding to use as regular chalkboard.
Here’s the DIY: This is SUPER easy!
Large photo frame (I got this one from Marc’s for $8.99)
Chalkboard Spary Paint, I used black (Hobby Lobby $7.99)
Chalk Markers (Hobby Lobby $10.99)
Remove your intended chalkboard surface from the frame.
Spary paint your surface with the chalkboard paint. I had actually planned on painting the glass, but I broke that haha. So I just used the cardboard backing from the frame. Use two coats and let dry for at least 24 hrs. I think you could probably just use black foam board and skip this step all togther, but I didn’t figure that out until after. oh well.
“Prime” your chalkboard surface by covering the whole surface in chalk. Just rub the whole thing with the side of a piece of chalk. Then wipe clean with a damp paper towel. This step is suposed to make it easier for you clean the surface later. It also gives it that used chalkboard look.
Finally, draw on your design. I used neon chalk markers.
Then put everything back in the frame!
I free handed everything using some inspiration photos I found on Pinterest.
