- Wedding: September 2016 - Orange Beach
When planning my wedding, I was furious searching for ideas as a “tattooed bride.” ALL the brides I looked at were: bohemian, marrying a grizzly looking bearded man, wearing a crown of flowers, dressed as a pin-up, or very over-weight. Nothing is wrong with any of those looks, but I wanted something different. I have a shaved head, half my hair bleached, had a Nike swoosh shaved in my head on my wedding day, a half sleeve, and about 14 other tattoos. However, my husband is a Lt Col and was wearing his dress blues and we wanted a classy wedding. Negate my punk rock style, I wanted to be a classy bride. I wanted to look like a bride, not a forest nymph. I opted for a PLAIN gown, which I felt was critical for balancing out my tattoos. Too much lace and sparkle makes me look like an Ed Hardy ad. I am so happy with how it turned out and I want other future brides with ink to know, YES. You can sport your tattoos and still have an upscale elegant wedding. You dont have to wear a frock lace dress or look like you’re walking out of the 1940’s. You dont need baby bangs across your forehead or an entire ring of flowers.
