My maid of honor, my mom and I baked cupcakes into 4oz mason jars and tied on miniature plastic forks. The cards contain instructions for uploading personal pictures to our photo-sharing site.
This is so cute! I already bought a bunch of the 4oz mason jars...thinking we're going to do strawberry jelly... I'm thinking this is cuter and will be MUCH easier (and more cost effective :)
Did you change your cupcake recipe at all or just use a normal recipe?
How far in advance did you make them?
These were a HUGE hit with our guests! We used boxed cake mix and baked according to the directions. For the frosting my sister (who's a baker) made buttercream frosting in my wedding colors and piped it on, but it really wasn't visible with the lid on, so I think you could just as easily use store-bought. We baked them two days before the wedding and they stayed moist in the jars--you may even be able to bake them a little sooner than that, but I can't say for sure. Message me if you have any more questions, I'm happy to help!
awesome! where was this a year ago? i totally would have done this for my wedding :), maybe i can convince my friend to do it for hers. she is also doing cupcakes, but this is sooo much more original.
Hi everyone! Thanks for all the interest! Okay, so a few more details since I've gotten a lot of questions about these:
We used 4oz. mason jars and filled them halfway with batter. We used boxed cake mix and it baked the same as if we had used a cupcake pan. We just put the jars--without lids!--onto a cookie sheet and popped them in the oven. Once they were cool we piped on frosting because it was easier than spreading it onto the cupcakes in the jars.
I tied the ribbons around the ring part of the lid and put the lids on the jars. Then I hole-punched the card and tied it and the fork onto the ribbon.
I got the forks from alice.com: they're the Mozaik plastic mini tasting forks in silver, and when I ordered them they were $3.49 for 48 forks, with free shipping.
I ordered the cards from vistaprint.com. The cards were free, but I paid extra to print more extensive directions on the back. We only ended up with 4-5 people uploading photos to our share site, but I was still happy with it, because we got them so much faster than the pro pics.
I hope this helps, and feel free to PM me with any questions!
Im sooo stealing this idea... It combines three things I Love... baking, cupcakes and mason jars...did you spray the inside of the mason jars with butter? and do you have any other pictures?
