So I finally had some time put aside to help you ladies with some more diy projects.
I was inspired by the ring bearer’s pillow & garter that I found off of ebay but didn’t want to spend $30 on a pillow that I will use only once. Hopefully this helps you ladies out!
Materials Used: (* amount of material varies as the size of your pillow varies, I also am using this material for my garter so the measurements are rough estimates)
pillow stuffing/ a pillow that is already stuffed (my mom found this pillow, not sure where though)
*1/2 yard of white/off white satin
*1/3 yard of red satin
*1/3 yard of damask material
needle and thread
3/4 inch ribbon
step 1: I ironed all the fabric I had, due to the fact that they wrinkle
step 2: I laid the white satin on the floor (it probably would have been better if I used an actual board or some other sort of flat surface) & cut about a 1/2″ to 1/4″ (I don’t remember) of slack around the pillow (allowing for hem lines)
step 3: I cut both the damask & red satin into large strips, I didn’t measure how much I needed. Lengthwise, I think I did about twice the length of the pillow & heightwise, I eyeballed what I thought should be the hieht of the material
step 4: I sewed the red satin and damask fabric, so the ends would hold together. Then ironed so they would lay flat and you wouldn’t see the seam
step 5: Then I layered them on top of eachother and sewed those two pieces together. So they would hold.
step 6: Put the white satin with the red satin & damask fabric on the inside, with right sides together. Then pin three of the four sides together & sew.
step 7: Fold inside out & stuff the pillow. Then hand stitch the fourth side. So the pillow is closed on all four side.
step 8: Gather the middle of the red satin & damask fabric & sew to hold desired ruffling. I personally stuck the needle in the middle of the pillow (not all the way through) and gathered the material by wrapping the thread around the two fabrics. & anchored the materials but sticking it into the pillow again.
step 9: Wrap the 3/4 ribbon around the gathered fabrics and I glued an embellishment on top to hide the gathering
*****It actually took me two atempts to get this right. Mainly because I didn’t give enough slack on the red satin & damask fabric. So make sure that you have enough slack otherwise, you’ll have a deformed pillow.*****
