My 12-year old son and I decided to make my own cake stand (I measured and he used the saw and we both hammered the nails – he had a blast). It is 16″ square, made out of 2×4 with 2×4 supports in the center. Then I used OSB/plywood on each side to enclose the box. Using my hot glue gun and quilt batting, I covered the box. I used a tutorial from YouTube on how to cover a box. I used the same technique to place my black polyester material over the box, only I used spray adhesive instead of hot glue for this step. I sewed my bling onto the pink ribbon and used spray adhesive to attach the ribbon around the box. Here is the YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKR5lTcn3zQ
My cake will look like this for the most part. I won’t have the same flower spray but similar as I made my own to place on the cake. The layers will be 6, 9 and 12″ each.
