My fiance and I made our very own coaster Save-The-Dates.
We ordered a custom stamp from Etsy Seller MidTownTees, ordered the Thoughts & Prayers Stamp set from Stampin’ Up, used Memories ink in Apple, Staz On in Midnight and Distress Ink in Lavender to create the images. I ordered the coaster blanks off of ebay.
Since I had broken my finger, my fiance created a jig to perfectly align the stamps and make the process really fast, and then stamped all of them. I don’t want to repost his tutorial, but tutorial and pictures are available here – http://weddingfortwo.blogspot.com/2009/10/dit-stds-construction.html
The whole process took about an hour and a half, including making the jig, and cost about $75 to make 73 sets of 2 coasters. It was a super easy way to make really interesting STDs (a number of people have commented that they were grateful to not receive magnets!) I love them because they are practical, and can be recycled after the wedding. We passed them out at our engagement party to avoid paying for shipping, and will send the remaining ones out with holiday cards.

very very cute! I love interesting save the dates! I keep going back to magnets but would love to find something unique.

Very nice. I’m wanting to stamp coasters for my reception. I’d prefer them to personalized napkins, but I might lose that battle. Either way I’m glad you posted this.

What a great idea!
Wish I had been on top of things enough to even have them ready by our engagement party. My wedding’s 5 months away, and we’re going to send them out in about 3 weeks *eek*

I’m a little late to the party, however I’ve had your wonderful S-T-D diy coasters post saved for months!
We are actually doing the same thing for our S-T-D’s (with different design, etc) and I had a couple quick questions re: ink for you.
Let me know if you’re still around and up for an ink chat 🙂
Thanks so much!

what seller did you use on ebay?

where did you get the blank coasters?
The blank coasters came from a seller on EBay – I don’t remember the name, but “dog” was in the title. I did a supplies post on our blog about inks and the stamps, in case anyone has more questions – http://www.wedding-for-two.com/2009/10/diy-stds-supplies.html
