- Wedding: November 2013
Hello All! I’ve never posted before (well yesterday…,) but I am a new wife and while planning my wedding I used this site A LOT. I did a lot of DIY at my wedding, and since this site was so useful, I thought I’d give back a little. I did my own decor (ceremony and reception) and bouquets. I thought I’d share some of my vendors and stuff. Hope someone finds it useful!
Where I bought my stuff
-Big Lots – peruse their seasonal section
-Joann’s – seasonal stuff goes on sale way early (I bough leaf garlands in August)
-download their coupon app!
-Michaels – all the crafty stuff you’ll ever need
-they have a coupon app too!
-The Dollar Tree – you can buy bulk items online and they’re shipped to the nearest store (no shipping!)
-Quick Candles (http://www.quickcandles.com) – tons of holders, candles, and artificial candles
-Ikea – white candles for very reasonable prices but you have to brave Ikea
-Save on Crafts (http://www.save-on-crafts.com) – more crafty things and mostly geared towards weddings
-Amazon – ’cause duh
How I Made My Stuff: I figure most DIY brides are like myself and look at pictures for inspiration, then go from there, but here are a few tips I’m glad I learned.
-Oxiclean will take off price tags from glasses (and labels from beer or wine bottles)
-to make a cheap and durable (for one night anyway) goblet candle holders glue a taper candle holder to a pillar hurricane holder. Use industrial strength silicone glue (found at an auto parts store). I had quick drying epoxy as a back-up in case anything broke (it was in my moms purse!) but nothing did. Do not put through the dishwasher.
-Instructables.com, burdastyle.com, and a million other places online have instructions on how to make cloth flowers. There is a Vogue pattern I used too, really good flower techniques. I combined this
http://www.instructables.com/id/Heirloom-Ribbon-Bouquet/ with this
http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Wedding-3/ and was very happy with the results
-for our boutonnieres I tried for about 2 days before giving up (surprisingly hard!) I found some on Etsy (HeartShapeedPetals) that the vendor made in my colors. I tarted them up with a leaf and bow to match the bridal bouquets
