Hi hive! My first DIY post! I made these peacock feather boutonnieres in about 6 hours. I used peacock eyes, black stripped coque feathers, ostrich fringe and peacock tail feathers purchased from ebay for a steal! I also used remnants of french tulle from my DIY birdcage veil. The jewels are hotfix gems but I used super glue for them.
I used a combination of hot glue and super glue to secure stuff.
First I used a very narrow piece of cardstock to have a surface to glue the feathers to. I layered and arranged the items as I wished and hot glued away. The fringe and coque feathers are on a fringe so I used the ribbon fringe edge as another surface for glueing as well.
After everything was hot glued together I used floral stem tape around the bottom to make a “stem”. I then used 5/8″ Black satin ribbon and super glued it as I wrapped it to secure it. Lastly, the jewels. UGH! I used tweezers to move these tiny things and super glue to affix them. First I would put a drop of glue in the ribbon where I wanted the jewel, then I would use the tweezers to set it down. This was a pain, but very worth it.
The fans are what my girls will be carrying in leiu of bouquets. This pic was a hasty mock-up where I just put the feathers behind the fan for a rough idea. The actual project will be much nicer 🙂 I bought the fans from jadetime.com-who I HIGHLY recommend!
I used inspiration from etsy as a starting board, and supplemented with hive and offbeatbride DIY. I am really happy with them! The next project is the corsages. All the “Floral” elements in my wedding will be feathers.
