I wanted to use burlap runners, but wanted to incorporate more color since my table cloth will be white, and so will my napkins (they come with the venue). I purchased burlap from save-on-crafts where you can pick up 10 yards at 14″ wide for $11. My tables are 60″ so I went with runners that were 72″ long, therefore allowing each roll to make 4 runners. What is great about the burlap I purchased is that the sides are hemmed so I only need to hem the 2 cut sides which is easy with just some hemming tape that is set using an iron. In order to add the color and texture I was looking for I found 4 different types of ribbon. I first tried attaching these by using fabric fusion glue, but this failed for me. I then decided to hand sew each ribbon. Instead of sewing down the whole ribbon I sewed only sections of the ribbon (6 total for each) to ensure that it would stay put. It really didn’t take long at all using just thread and a needle. I am very pleased with the outcome, and love the color and texture it will add to my table setting.
