I have short moppish hair that does what it wants. My FH’s favorite way to describe it is as “a hot mess.” It kind of does what it wants and I don’t do the whole product thing to try and tame it.
Clippy things caught my eye and it was then I learned they were called fascinators. I looked at some at David’s Bridal, but they were all huge and bigger than my palm. My Dad (my opinion-giver of choice) was not impressed. Later, when I found THE dress at Bridal Elegance (in Short Pump of Richmond VA) they also had THE fascinator – smallish, wispy feathery, and sparkly. $70. I am a bargain shopper, and trying to be a DIY Bee, and $70 can not pass. There are some things I am willing to spend money on, just not a wispy feathery fascinator.
So apparently feathers are in. Feathery hedbands and such can be found at Target and Claire’s, but not what I was looking for. However, Walmart had just what I wanted. In the craft section they have a little Simplicity display for making head wraps and headbands for babies and there is quite the selection of flowers and feathery bits just waiting to be attached to headbands and alligator clips. I got a small feathery wispy white one already on a clip for $5!
I even toyed with buying a lime green feathery fascinator, but decided to go with white and will see if I can attach a green orchid to it when my wedding day approaches. Then my fascinator will match my color scheme and my FH’s bout!
If you actually want to make your own with your own feathers – here are really good instructions from Simplicity’s website. I think I may poke around this new website to see what else I can find!
