I actually got inspired for this project from tissue paper pomanders, but instead of using a circle foam ball i purchased a rectangle piece of foam from Dollar tree and cut it in half to about a square.
I then used tissue paper I had bought from there and folded it in half lengthwise and cut it.
I then took each half and folded into equal thirds and cut them, making six sections out of each piece of tissue paper.
I took three pieces of tissue paper and accordian folded them. Then i repeated this process with another three, making two separate folded rectangles.(I saw tutorials of people accordian folding six pieces of paper together, but I found that doing two separate bunches of three gives the flower more fullness.)
I then trimmed the edges to a point on both ends of the paper.
I then folded it in half and wrapped crafting wire around the center point.
I separated each tissue paper from another slowly (pulling it away from my crafting wire to leave a flat bottom when i stick the wire into the foam).
I used five flowers for each square. (one on top and one on each of the 4 sides.)
I figure if done exactly you can make 8 flowers out of each pack of tissue paper from dollar tree (white comes in packs of 40).
The breakdown in cost –
Tissue paper = .13
Foam = .34
(bought at Dollar tree for $1.00 and makes 2, but found at Wal-Mart 3 for 2.00)
Crafting wire = had in crafting supply at home
Total cost per centerpiece = .47
These will be very cost effective considering the rest of my centerpieces 😀
