All DIY. Groom made the macarons (coconut, coffee, and ginger pictured), I helped. I printed guests names on transparency at Kinkos and taped them to the boxes.
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea. I would love to use it as my escort cards with lemon macarons. Woule you please share your hubby's recipe and where you found the adorable boxes. Thank you so much!!! ♥
For recipes and tips--Google them extensively. What worked on day 1 for us would suddenly not work on day 2. You need to get a good grasp on all the potential complications and likely causes so you can make adjustments on the fly.
So you made the macarons yourself? Was it difficult? And how long did it take to make them? How far ahead of the wedding did you have to bake them? I was actually just looking them up today, but they are expensive (esp in the New York area), but are perfect since our engagement was in Paris and I think we actually had macarons at Laduree the morning of the proposal!
So you made the macarons yourself? Yes, the two of us.
Was it difficult? Yes. Mostly frustrating. They seemed to either crack or stick with very little middle ground (and the middle ground seemed to change day to day). Our batter was good but our oven is erratic. I HATE electric ovens. If you have a good oven you will probably do better.
And how long did it take to make them? About eight days (one per week, eight weeks) since we had a hard time sticking many in the oven at once because our oven was erratic. Having to do lots of small sheets sucked time. We also both work a lot so we only had time to attempt one batch a week.
How far ahead of the wedding did you have to bake them? We started two months in advance and froze them. We also made two practice batches long before. We ate those. We thawed these about 48 hours before the wedding.
They ARE expensive, probably because they are so difficult to make. Also almond flour is very expensive. I bought mine online because online it was finer and cheaper.
