Like the flower girl basket, the ring bearer pillow started off plain.
I bought white satin fabric and conjured up a small pillow using some fiberfill I had laying around. I then tied a ribbon around it and added some keychains. Keychains, you ask? I didn’t want the boys carrying the real rings, just in case there was a mutiny and all of them refused to walk. The craft store had some fake rings in the wedding section, but keychains were a bit bigger (so you can see them easier) and a lot cheaper (a bag for 99 cents vs. $3.99 for the fake wedding rings).
the basket and pillow before I damaskified them
But again I had a reason to use the excess damask fabric.
Step One: I cut a length of fabric that would fit around the pillow (plus some slack).
Step Two: I pinned the long edges of the fabric, ready to be hemmed using a blind hem.
This is a great project to do while watching reruns of “Project Runway”.
Step Three: Hemming time. My least favorite step. Remember to iron afterward to flatten it down.
Step Four: I folded the fabric in half and pinned the unhemmed edges, right sides together.
Step Five: I then sewed this edge. Make sure to not make it too tight around the pillow. I started loose and then kept sewing until I got a fit I liked.
If you look close, you can see two different seams from where I decided that it needed to be tighter.
Step Six: I trimmed the fabric close to the seam, so there wouldn’t be a bulge when I turned it right-side-out.
Step Seven: Then I just slid the fabric sleeve around the pillow and added the ribbon with the keychains on top.
And here is the completed basket and pillow together!
