I love topiaries! I briefly entertained the idea of using them as centerpieces for all of the guest tables. That idea got scrapped, but I still wanted to incorporate a few topiaries here and there. After some research on the interwebs I found some adorable inspiration and determined our sweets buffet the perfect home for a few.
Making them was super easy as I went the semi-diy route and purchased premade topiary forms at Hobby Lobby (gotta love those 40% off coupons!). While I was there I also picked up 2 terracotta pots. The rest of the supplies were items I had leftover from previous projects.
The process for the topiary portion is pretty self explanatory. I would note that a combination of hot glue and floral pins works well to keep everything in place.
While still super simple, the little banner took the most time to complete. I printed the text out on my home printer and took it to Office Max to be blown up on my favorite copy machine. When I got it home I cut it out in a slight arch.
You can somewhat see the faint pencil marks noting where to cut.
Once I had the banner appropriately trimmed I sat back and admired my work. Something was bugging me about it. The text. It was black and our colors are navy blue. I know this may seem crazy, but I just can’t have that black text up there. So, I whipped out the navy paint pens and traced over the text.
From there I simply rolled each end around a paint brush and wrapped the excess around each of the topiary trunks. A little navy ribbon and this one’s done.
