So for months now i have have wanted to dye my petticoat, and today i was able to get it done!
So to start, i bought my petticoat from davids bridal, and it was 100% nylon.
Then i went to Joannes and bought fabric dye
and i did not follow directions on packet. I went off what i read online. Online said to do the washing machine method. So i filled washing machine with hot water, and put in the color dye packet, and the color enhancement package included with the iDYE poly package.
I did wet petti in the shower before putting in the washing machine. Then i put the machine on heavy duty setting, and sat back and waited.
keep opening washer every 5 mins just to check on it, i was so afraid i was doing something wrong. So i let the machine rinse the petticoat, and pulled it out.
It wasnt quite as dark as i wanted so i put it back into the machine, and filled with hot water yet again, put in packet number 2 of iDYE poly and started the process again.
So a half hour later, this is what i have!
So then i washed again in the washer with detergent, and then hung to air dry in the bathroom!
A few tips:
make sure to run a load thru the washer when your done with some old towels, or bleach water to make sure nothing rubs off on clothes. and my washer looks just fine now! I was worried that i would ruin our new washer but everything worked out fine!
On the second dye cycle i stopped the machine and let the petticoat sit in the washer with the dye water for a half hour, then i countined the washers cycle.
Happy to anyswer any questions you may have! I cant wait for my wedding to wear this! Im still waiting on my dress to come in and when it does you know ill post pics!
