This is my first DIY post. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message. I wish I could give credit to everyone I was inspired by for this design but I unfortunately didn’t keep track of names.
So here are the supplies needed:
1 hat box (purchased from Solutions for $12.99)
1 roll of damask wrapping paper (purchased from Michael’s for about $7 a roll)
stretchy satin fabric (purchased from Fabricland- 1 meter but I only used about a quarter of the fabric)
flower decoration (purchased from Claire’s- it’s actually a hair clip)
cord (purchased from the Dollarama)
Step 1: Bottom of Box- wrap sides of box with damask paper. Make sure the pattern is right side up! Fold the extra paper on the bottom of the box underneath the box and fold the extra paper on the top of the box inside the box. You may want to cut small slits around the edge to make folding easier.
Step 2: cut a slot in the lid for the cards using exacto knife.
Step 3: Lid- wrap the lid of the box with the satin fabric. Keep pulling the ends to avoid creases (mine is by no means perfect but I had to let go at some point!)
Step 4- flip the lid over (so you can see the slot) and with exacto knife, cut a line through the fabric so that you can tuck the fabric around the slot.
Step 5- apply glue along the rim of the slot and press cord down onto it.
Step 6- where the cord ends meet, add a flower or other decoration. The flower I used was actually a hair clip so I just clipped it on.
And voila! It took me about 2 hours and cost me about $40 in materials.
