OMG! Okay so I have finally finished my first DIY project (well almost..) and I can’t wait to show it off!!!! First I would like to say I went through 4 different mock-ups, this being the 4th and final one.
I was inspired from Miss Ducklings Save-The-Date’s (AMAZING) http://diy.weddingbee.com/topic/miss-ducklings-diy-save-the-dates … but I knew I wanted to do my own spin on them! What do you guys think?!
I’ll just share some quick info about them.. First off, our colors are lilac, deep purple, and silver/grey. After a few trial and errors with the font, we decided on Albemarle Swash, which can be downloaded for free. I got the icy frost cardstock paper from papersource.com on sale, and also the Bazzill cardstock (Mini envelopes and flowers) on createforless.com. THe mini envelopes are really just flaps of paper folded over and glued on the cardstock. I couldn’t find mini envelopes in the dark shade of purple I needed and I felt that I could easily make a simple envelope to get the job done. I got 8 sheets of silver cardstock from Michaels on sale (for the flowers) and the lilac paper (numbers) was bought on sale in person at Kate’s Paperie. I have tons of extra paper so I can’t really determine cost per STD because I am DIY-ing all the paper for our wedding =). The white ribbon was 2/$1 at Michael’s and I only need two spools for 50 STD’s. The gems I used to dot the “i’s” in our names were leftover stick-on’s from scrapbooking. The STD stamp was also ordered from papersource.com, and the silver ink we used we bought at Michael’s with a 40% coupon. I used my Cricut machine to make my numbers and flowers. The numbers and spacer circles are from the George and Basics cartridge (which comes with the machine) and the flowers were made with the Storybook cartridge which I bought on Ebay for $27.
Originally, we weren’t going to do pictures at all because we didn’t really want to spend $ on engagement photos. Then we thought of something cool. I have a waterproof digital camera so after 600+ shots in my backyard pool, we achieved this amazing angelic shot and just quickly edited it in Picasa. We re-used the layered flowers that were meant to be in the center by cutting them in half and winging them on the side. I think they look pretty cool.
Lastly, we have our envelopes…
I ran the envelopes through my printer and wrote “Guess Who’s Getting Married?… ” on the flap. We also printed our own envelope liners at work (Freeeeee). The envelopes themselves were only $3 for 50 on Ebay and they are the same lilac as the numbers in our STD’s.. (Sorry the pics are so dark, the flash was washing out most of the pictures).
Anyway, I am in no means an expert at this stuff, I just really wanted something fun and quirky, and from the heart for our guests to receive and I hope we will accomplish this- I can’t wait to send them out! I’m hoping end of September won’t be too early, (about a year in advance).
Let me know what you think!! Thank youuu! =)
