YOU TUBE VIDEO for how to make the pom pom.
I simply bought….
- tissue paper (pink and green colors)
- 4x4x4 syrofoam square.. the kind for silk flowers.. its a little sturdier then regular flower foam.
- black 3/4 inch silk ribbon
- fake green moss
- tooth floss (I used dental floss to tie the tissue paper pom poms before fluffing them,,, i did this because im a dental student so i had it laying around.. you can use floral wire or regular string, even pipe cleaner.
- Hot glue gun, and hot glue.
- Small wooden rod, (I cut mine in half due to the length.)
- White paper
Watch the pom pom tutorial and make yourself a pom, i puffed mine before assembling everything else.. whats the point in make the display if you cant make a pretty pom!…
i wrapped the black ribbon up the wooden rod to cover it, you could do this or use spray paint.. i had no paint so i used the ribbon.and i think it looks perfect that way. ( i used hot glue to secure the rribon before twisting it up.
I used white paper but intend on buiilding black boxes or uses black clay pots as a base… but I cut the whtie paper to cover the styrofoam square.’ (if you decide to build a box simply make one big enough for the square… using a pot? cut the styrofoam so it will fit snuggly in the pot.
ONce the paper was hot glued on, i hot glued the fake moss on top of it.. this was tricky because you have to keep gluing so it sticks the way you want it too.
I then used ribbon to wrap around and do stripes… i simply glued it on as i wrapped… .. to make the moss look better.. teh top ribbon was half way on the box and half way up above the paper, (to make like a lip/ledge) the moss was seated instead of stacke on top.
Take the wooden rod or a pencil and poke a hole almost all the way throgh the center of the box so you can place your flower once you glue the rod to the pom pom.
Find the area in your pom pom that where you tied it… USING HOT GLUE, glue the top of your wooden rod to the side of that,,, hold it there until it is good and dry.. you can always uses wire and (sew the rod into place)
Stick your flower stem into the base.. REPOOF your pom pom and if wanted tie a bow to the stem.. to give it a littel something extra..
Also when trimming the edges of your poof when it is tied and folded.. i did it with more of a point then a rounded tip.. i would suggest trying to cut them with a rounded toe and a pointed toe and see what you like better?

the moss looks like crap because this is a rough draft.. i want to pot the bases in clay pots…
Also the picture with the pink and green pom shows you the difference between pointy tips (pink) and more rounded tips (green)

I WANT TO POT THEM LIKE THIS WITH THE MOSS MORE SET INTO THE POT… I WILL PAINT THE POTS BLACK AND ADD A FUNKY DAMASK RIBBON AROUND THE RIM… i think it would look great!
