We are planning on having our cocker spaniel act as ring bearer and thought it would be cute to put the pillow on his collar some way. I used this photo for my inspiration:
But I was afraid that a collar made out of cloth would not be as secure. One option my aunt suggested to me was to glue on the fabric onto one of those clip on dog collars (the one’s with the black clip on instead of the buckle). But I thought I would try something else and so this is what I came up with:
I had my fiance sew green fabric over this little pillow I got from a bridal show (a photographer tied a fake ring to this tiny black pillow w/ his name on it. I thought it would make a great little pillow for our dog, just have to cover it up with fabric) and then tie on yellow ribbon. My fiance then reenforced the ribbon by sewing it to the pillow.
Then my mom suggested to add a loop on the back of the pillow, like a belt loop, so that I can slip the collar through that to keep the pillow more secure.
Sorry for the ugly sticking on the back, my fiance told me that he isn’t really that good at sewing. He only learned when he was in the boys scouts (I do not know how to sew so I am happy either way. But what is funny is when I asked my mom to help figure out a good way to secure it to the collar, she suggested the belt loop. But when she saw this pillow, she said my fiance did an “ugly job”, lol, and suggested I come to her first, lol). But since this is the back side, no one will see it.
Anyways, here is what the collar looks like around my dog’s neck:
And here is a closer photo of the pillow:
Here is the break down of the cost:
1 yard of green fabric: $1 (purchased at downtown Los Angeles’ fabric district)
$0.36 (includes tax) one spool of yellow ribbon (purchased at Michael’s when ribbon was on sale, 3 for $1)
0.00 Fake rings
$2.17 (includes tax) one spool of green thread
0.00 purple ribbon (since this is on the back side, it doesn’t matter what color I used and I wanted a thicker ribbon on the back to loop the collar through), I just have scraps around from Christmas
?.?? dog collar. I had this brand new dog collar at home for my previous dog that passed away a few years ago. My current dog’s neck is a little bigger than the previous dog, so my fiance drilled a hole in an extra hole in the collar so that it would fit around his neck, and as you can see, it fits around his neck just fine.
(I remember purchasing this collar in the clearance section at Petco or Petsmart, so I would probably estimate this cost me about $5- ish)
Total Price= $3.53
