- Wedding: October 2013 - A Beautiful converted Barn
So – im all done. Fry, Leela and Nibbler are all packed away, wrapped in bubble wrap awaiting their time to stand ontop of our cake. i THINK i managed to keep them a secret – i cant wait to see Mr Weird_bunnys face! 🙂
****I HAVE NEVER MADE ANYTHING WITH FIMO BEFORE!****
i am posting this to hopefully pursuade any bee that has thought about making a topper themselves – TO DO IT!!!!!
FIMO is super easy to work with – stay patient and keep it simple.
break the character into basic shapes… for example: Fry – 2 little sausages for feet, 2 long sausages for legs, rectangle for torso, 2 sausages for arms, 2 circles for hands, 1 circle for head, 1 flattened cone for mouth. i modelled the hair little bits at a time, building up the quiff at the front. it is FAR easier to work like this rather than trying to tackle making the body all in one go.
work from the bottom up.
baby wipes were my best friend for cleaning up!!!! Frys face ended up orange from where i was moulding his hair, the colour transferred onto my fingers and in turn onto his face. the babywipes cleaned it straight off!
baby wipes also help to smooth out fingerprints and small mistakes. dont rub too hard though – the wipes kinda melt the fimo! 🙂
if at 1st it doesnt look right – save your time, and start again! i spent hours trying to ‘save’ frys face – it was horrific by the time i finished pushing and pulling the fimo in and out of place. i balled it up and started again. i got the right shape in about 2 mins! lesson learnt! lol!!
if it STILL doesnt look right – put it down, walk away and come back to it later!!! Nibbler was a NIGHTMARE!!! being so small i assumed he would be easy! LOL!!! i couldnt get the shape of him right AT ALLL!!!!! i ended up getting really frustrated. so i packed it up and went back to it the next day. MUCH BETTER!!! sometimes fresh eyes are exactly what is needed!
most importantly – HAVE FUN!!! it doesnt need to be perfect! lets be honest – if you wanted perfect you would have bought one rather than tackle making it!!! the fact its handmade makes it better than a perfect replica!!!!
hope you like my topper – and that these tips are helpful.xxx
