Hi! Just wanted to share a few photos of my engagement ring. When my fiance asked me what kind of ring I wanted (which was very smart of him) I had no clue.
A friend and i set out to the Diamond District in NYC to browse … and it was awful. We had such a terrible time there and felt like we were being hassled by untrustworthy people. I actually know an older, well-do-to woman who gets all of her jewels custom done in the diamond district, but without a real hook up, I felt completely lost.
Next we traveled downtown to a tiny vintage jewelry shop called Doyle and Doyle. They were so helpful and I finally realized something: I did not like big, tall, modern prongs. I liked flatter, more delicate rings. I picked out a few styles just to give my boyfriend a direction… but ended up falling in LOVE with one. I stalked it (it happened to be in their online shop as well) and within a few days of our trip, it was gone. I was SURE that he had purchased it for me. Flash forward 3 1/2 months and he popped the question with this beauty! It was NOT the ring I had picked out. Turns out that all of the rings I chose were sold! (Apparently they go quickly, and hey, they are OOAK since they are vintage). I can not tell you how PERFECT this ring is for me. It’s totally different than the one I chose, and so fitting for my style.
The store helped him design his own by showing a few settings that were similar to the styles I chose, then letting him pick the quality of diamond that he wanted. I must say, he went above and beyond my expectations. And though I would have said yes if there was a twist-tie ring in that box… I have to say that I am SO grateful for such a lavish and wonderful gift. It will be in our family for many generations to come I hope!
- 1920’s ring and 1900’s diamond
- Platinum hand engraved ring with 14 mini diamonds. Most mini diamonds have just a few facets, these diamonds have 52, which make them extra sparkly.
- .74 carat old Euro diamond that has not been re-cut into a modern brilliant. Hard to find!
- Bought with lots of love and received in utter shock and gratitude.
