- Wedding: September 2012
I was inspired to write this little idea, after 1)seeing what buying candy in bulk actually costs! and 2) The blog by Miss Unicycle
So I’m getting married Labor Day weekend, on a budget for about 200 people. And feeding 200 people candy is not cheap! So my plan of attack for this is to stock up on clearanced easter candy.
Im gonna go to CVS (Saved up ExtraBucks), Walgreens, Target and Wal-mart. Some stores mark down as early as Sunday afternoon, others like Target usually take a few more days to mark down.
I did my research, found out the best way to store it (dark, cool, dry place) and chocolates (wrapped in foil, dark cool place) And secondly I went into the stores to check the expiration dates on the candy most are best untill late 2013
So just to give you an idea, I’ve purchased clearanced candy after valentines day, and a 1lb. bag of Hershey’s Kisses ends up costing about $1.25 to .75, normal price is about $4.25, where as online, I havent found it anywhere cheaper than $3 a lb. plus shipping.
I plan on buying the following:
Chocolate (Fun sized MarsCo., Kisses, M&M’s)
Sweets (Sweet Tarts, Skittles, Sunburst)
Jelly Beans, Pixi Stix etc.
Hopefully I’ll get 60+ lbs of candy. And since I’m going for the pretty standard, non-holiday type candy, I’m sure very few people will notice, besides the cute colors!! (Def. not buying Peeps or eggs!) Just an idea for any summer or fall brides on a budget, I think a multi-color candy buffet will be the perfect way to say good-bye to summer!
PS: I also hope to get a bargain on flower girl baskets, and maybe little pails for table decor!!
