I’m making these papel picado flags (papel picado are delicate designs cut onto tissue paper) for use as a send-off/favor/alternative to clinking on glasses at my Cinco de Mayo wedding.
I started off by making a template with black construction paper, and then glossed it over a few times with Mod Podge in order to make the paper a bit more stiff and sturdier for the next step.
Then I folded a piece of tissue paper in half and then again so I would be cutting out 4 flags. I carefully used an X-acto knife to trace out the pattern onto the tissue paper.
Then I glued in onto a wooden dowel (I got a pack of 20 for about $2.75 at Michael’s) – et voila! Papel picado mini flags!
I’m so excited about these!
