Hello to all you crafty bees out there!
I have been going back in forth about doing our invitations myself or doing them on the computer and sending them online.
I like the idea of doing them myself because they’d be more personalized and would fit perfectly with our theme. However, I like to convenience of doing them on the computer and saving paper and money. (We’re trying to go green as much as possible.) I started trying to design my own invites and quickly realized that my artistic skills don’t easily transfer to the computer. My result was ok but not amazing…
Back to square one… Started looking for invites online but I was shocked with some of the prices.
However, after some research, I came across this program called Smilebox. It’s a FREE program (you have to register but it’s free, some designs have to be purchased but there are plenty of free templates) and it allows you to use their templates and personalize them with your message and your photos. It’s somewhat similar to digital scrapbooking. It looks a little bit like a powerpoint presentation or those e-cards that you send for birthdays and stuff. You can even add the song of your choice. What I like is that they add new templates all the time, not just for wedding but any event (birthdays, general party invites, holidays, etc).
The one thing I’d like them to change the amount of ‘customization’ you can do. For example, give more color options. But overall, I think it’s great. It’ll save us hundreds of dollars and in the end, even though it doesn’t match our colors perfectly, I’m sure no one will care or even notice!
This is what is looks like: your pictures on the left (Don’t worry! These are random pictures, not the actual pictures I’m going to use) Then you get to pick a theme (i.e. Wedding and Anniversary) and you can preview them. Then if you find one that you like, you personalize it this way:
Here, you first pick the type of slide you want (as in a powerpoint, you can create a multi-page presentation). In this specific template, there are 3 possible types, I picked the one with one large picture and text at the bottom. Then you get to click and drop your pictures (how easy is that!). You can make them black and white, zoom in, and center them the way you like.
On the right, you have more options. You can choose the music that will play while people view your invite. You can change de background color (5 available with this template). You also get to pick the transition type and slideshow speed.
All you have to do is save the finished product and e-mail it. I think there’s a way of posting it on a blog too.
It’s really straight forward! Anyways, I thought I’d share my discovery with all of you. Let me know if you find it helpful or if you want more info.
