My mom and one of my BM’s moms made our boutonniers a couple of weeks ago. I think they turned out great!
They made them, so I don’t know all the steps exactly, but my mom went through most of it. I know that we ordered the peacock feathers online (from tonyhill.net). We ordered the smallest ones. My mom had this rust colored ribbon from a big give-away at work, and we decided on that color. It matches really well with the colors in the eye. Anyway, they used 2 feathers on each boutonniere. When wrapping the ribbon around the base of the feather, they found that they were kind of floppy and not very sturdy. So they improvised with some craft sticks (popsicle sticks, basically) that BM’s mom had lying around. They glued the peacock feathers to the sticks, and then wrapped the ribbon around. Just prior to wrapping it for the last time, they added a flat-backed safety pin, glued that on, and secured it with the ribbon. The ribbon was then cut and glued to stay in place. For FI’s we’re adding a button mum to it, so they put some toothpicks in to keep the space open. We’re really excited about them – they’re going to look great on the guys’ brown tuxes!
