I bore of traditional elements, but still like a traditional feel. Hence, I decided to make petal cones instead of using traditional baskets. I’ll also be posting pics of ringbearer books at some point, being used in lieu of traditional pillows.
We have 3 flower girls, and each will be carrying one of these pearlescent ivory cones trimmed in wine ribbon with a wine ribbon handle, filled with a mixture of deep red and purple silk rose petals. I used some textured fabric scrapbook paper for the cones. I bought 12×12 sheets, but you could definitely get away with a regular 8.5×11 sheet. I just played around until I get the shape I liked, and used a combination of Zip Dry glue and hot glue to secure the cone shape (Zip Dry first, hot glue later). I kind of flattened the cones and trimmed straight across the tops, which resulted in the slight dip along the top edge. Then I punched a hole on each side for the handle. I reinforced the seams of the cones with hot glue at this point, and then trimmed with the ribbon using hot glue, too. Because the ribbon is right above the holes, it sort of acts as a hole reinforcement of sorts, too.
The girls won’t be getting their cones until it’s time to walk donw the aisle since they’re just paper and I don’t want to risk any mis-haps.
