This ring is gorgeous!  If you have some sort of wedding band/s with it, nobody will mistaken it for anything other than an engagement ring!  Also, red is the color of love and passion!  If you like it, who cares what others think!  You are the one who will be wearing it for the rest of your life!  Please post what ring you end up getting?

I gave my fiance an aquamarine surrounded by saphires. Her birthstone being the aqua and mine saphire. She hasn’t been asked yet if it’s anything other than an engagement ring. I think there’s more sentimental value in something like that.

Just a side note, love the ring, but that ruby does not look real. It’s probably a lab created “ruby”, which if that’s what you want, it’s fine. Rubies are not supposed to be that clear. Here’s an example of what they should look like:

On that note, I LOVE gemstone rings! To me, it will make your ring even more unique! I say go for it! Diamonds are way overdone, IMO.

I think a gem stone engagement ring is beautiful. I actually have a sapphire stone with two side diamonds. Because of the finger that the ring is on, no one has thought of it as anything other then an engagement ring. I also love the fact that it is different and unique as opposed to all the diamond engagement rings out there. So if you want a gem stone engagement ring, I say go for it!

@woodwindwaker…actually the picture you posted of the cloudy ruby is not true. The clarity of a ruby is as any stone, you will get what you pay for.  The ruby is actually just a red colored sapphire and will come in any quality of cloudy to flawlessly clear and will still be a natural ruby.  Natural, untreated, and “clear” stones are just more expensive and harder to come by.

If that is what you like then go for it! I love seeing the gem rings, they’re not my personal taste but I do love them. I wanted to traditional look, but I do search this site to look at the gem rings bc they’re gorgeous!!! I say go for it! It’s obviously what you want!!

My husband proposed to me with a beautiful blue diamond, and it is always mistaken for a gemstone. Lol I feel kind of snobby when I tell them it’s a blue diamond.

This is my ruby engagement ring, and I’ve never had it mistaken for not being an engagment ring. I even work at two senior living properties and am constantly surrounded by older men and women, and even they never mistake it for anything other than an engagement ring. I do however constantly get complimented on doing something different than just a diamond ring, and I do get questions if the ruby is my birthstone. (Its not. I just love rubies, and red in general.) I say go for the ruby!

My engagment ring is a yellow sapphire with diamond accents. Before I got it, my cousin would ask how would people know it’s an engagement ring. Well if they ask, I’ll tell them. Otherwise, who cares what other people think. The ring is special to me and I love it. That’s all that matters.
