Made these Rustic Cupcake Stands with my dad the other weekend.
We went and found a fallen tree on my parents property and cut the tree into different size log pieces. My dad cut them in the following sizes.. 20″ (Bottom), 15″ (Middle) and 10″ (Top) and for the one that has the extra tier 7″ (for our cake). We also cut the middle pieces 5″ long from a smaller tree and cut two for each stand. With dad and me being a perfectionist we cut many extra pieces just to make sure the final product turned out perfect.
We then hauled them 2 miles up hill (so stupid) back to the car. Let me tell you, these suckers are so HEAVY! Estimated 10# log..got my workout for the day in, my quads where killing me!
We let them dry out for 5 days before putting them together (its been a wet summer here in Wisconsin) We played around with them for awhile trying to gauge the right pieces for each stand. (As you see the level is out…along with the many powertools)
We then screwed them in and used wood glue for extra reinforcement, you dont have to use wood glue-we where just being extra careful 🙂 When you are screwing the small log piece in with the tier you need to go in at an angle. We secured each tier to each of the logs and used two screws on each side.
You keep doing this to each tier till you get to the top and you take a screw and take the top teir and screw it into the small log.
And then the finished product…viola!
Which we are using for our wonderful wedding cupcakes from GIGIs 🙂 YUMMM. Hope you enjoyed my tutorial 🙂
