So after seeing a few inspirations on these boards, I decided to make my own Save the Dates using a wallet sized photo from our engagement shots and a basic layout created in Microsoft Word with a few free fonts. I bought paper and envelopes from Kelly Paper Company, printed all paper materials on my ink deskjet printer at home. The velum I bought can go through either ink or laser printers. There is a heavy duty cardboard backing, with a printed natural flower patterned paper then a peice of sheer velum over that. The flower paper is completely stuck to the backing, the velum is only attached at one end so the photo was added later, and can be removed later. I used a Fiskars edge cutter/embosser for the edges, permanent spray adhesive for sticking it all togther, removable double-sided tape for the wallet size photos (so they can be kept if anyone wants to not keep the whole Save the Date). To finish it all off, I ripped cloth ribbons (just tear regular cotton fabric at approx 1″ widths) for bows and used a little regular Scotch double sided tape to keep them from moving. I love how they turned out.
