Hello bees!Let me just start by saying this project has been a headache and I probably should have just gone with different shoes to bling, but these spoke to me in a way others hadn’t. So here is my confusing and difficult shoe transformation!
I picked out these shoes for a steal of 20 dollars and I love them. After I bought them and got them home I figured out there would be a problem with the pink that is on the toe bed and around the heel. My colors do not include pink. While this would be ok for people that love pink and want something different, i LOATHE the color pink. It is just absolutely hideous in my opinion. Im sorry ahead of time if I offended any of you bees 🙂
Arent they just cute?!? Too bad I wasn’t using my brain with this purchase…I guess I had a hard time looking at anything but the amazing deal I would be getting on them. So I got them home and realized two things. Obviously the pink, and the fact that the shoe is black. What if I put on the rhinestones, which I’m using swarovski AB clear ones, and you can see black through it? I definitely didnt want that to be an issue, so I decided to paint my wedding shoes. I know, your thinking im crazy right? I sought some advice from some friends and scoured the web and couldn’t find too much information about what to do. What if I painted them and on my wedding day they started to chip?!!? This is a gamble im willing to take.
The first thing I did, well besides picking out a shade of purple from about a zillion different purples, is figure out what exactly I wanted to paint. I knew I wanted to paint the whole shoe but the thing that needed to look perfect was the part with the pink. So I taped off everything around the pink..which was time consuming in itself. I took 3 pictures of my awesome tape job so here ya go…
Then I just painted the pink part. It was hard to get the toe and the pink part inside the shoe below the black toe strap, but the end result was worth it. I had to put about 4 coats on to make sure it was absolutely covered. I think that if I just wear them one day I should be fine. I might try to wear them before hand to get them to peel. That way I can do some fixing before the big day. After I got done painting just the pink part to the purple color, this is what I ended up with…
The purple paint in the picture looks just amazing, but there are a few parts that are iffy when looking up close, but Im the only one that will be looking close enough to tell, and the rhinestones should cover a lot of it…
After this was completely dry, I sanded down the black shiny part just a tad and put two coats of the purple paint over the black. That way if the shoe poked through the rhinestone it would be purple poking through, and not black. The purple didnt cover the black solidly, but thats ok, because its just enough to show purple and not black. Does that make sense? ha…sorry if im confusing you. Here is a picture of the complete shoe painted, well minus just the heal, and the start to some bling….
I have a lot of work still left to do, but I feel good about the purple showing through. I am so happy I decided to do this. If you plan on doing this yourself and have any questions feel free to PM me and I will help you with them. When I get the whole shoe covered in rhinestones I will post a picture of them for you all to see.
What do you bee’s think? Do you think these look good, or should I just skip this and start over with new shoes and not waste my money? Please be honest. I dont want to shell out a hundred bucks on rhinestones if you all think they will look stupid. Thanks in advance ladies…I trust all of your advice because I know my bees wouldn’t lead me astray 😉
