Tuesday, July 28th. MissRain came home from a loooong day at work to find three perfect stems of purple orchids– her favorite– on the door. The attached note told her that MrRain had a wonderful evening planned and that he would be by to pick her up at 6:30.
A quick glance at the time told her she had an hour to get ready. But was this the real thing? Was he going to propose? Or was this another trick– a decoy night to keep her on her toes?
At 6:30 MrRain knocked on her door. In the car MissRain didn’t ask any questions and John did not offer any explanations. First he took her to one of their favorite local places to eat, a 24 hour diner called Kerbey Lane. Next they drove to South Congress to Hey Cupcake! (http://www.heycupcake.com/splash.html). MissRain sat down at a table while MrRain went to pick up the cupcakes he had secretly ordered ahead of time. As the lady working the counter handed him the box she smiled and discreetly wished him good luck.
They ate the cupcakes and just when MissRain was wondering what else he had in store for the evening MrRain got down on one knee and proposed! MissRain pulled him to her and kissed him before whispering “of course!”
They ended the night at Mozart’s, the lakeside coffee shop where they had their first date. They sat by the water watching the sun set and taking turns calling family and friends.
A sweet proposal, and a perfect evening.
