So when i got engaged last march i went right away and bought a dress. It was a Mermaid style lace gown, Everything i THOUGHT i wanted. It was soft, elegant, and form fitting. I just fell in love with it and couldn’t imagine myself in ANYTHING else…
A few months later… ok about a year later… I had changed my whole image of what my BIG day was going to be. My girls dresses were no longer brown but red. My theme went from fall to black and red, and roses. Then i attended a bridal show and as all the ladies were modeling the dresses i felt i needed to look for a new one. I was unsure of my other one and my moh told me “if you’re unsure you need to look, even if you end up keeping the one you have.” So i followed her advice…
On a wednesday (yes i remember it clearly) I had some extra time and decided to go to the small bridal shop in waupun,wi called timeless bridal. It was ten minutes from my house and they had a pretty good selection. So i rummaged through the dresses not really knowing what i wanted and just grabbed the ones that were my size and i could fit into.
I had all kinds of dresses from similar ones of my original to ones that i would NEVER pick out of a magazine. Included was this Oyster colored dress that looked far too puffy for my liking, and had that “bunching” i always considered down conmforter material. And as the consultant was lacing up the back for me I was looking in the mirror in the tiny dressing room and thinking wow.. this is actually pretty!
She laced me all up and i went out to the larger room to look in the mirrors. And WOW.. was this dress ever beautiful!!! I have an olive colored skin thanks to be bi-racial and this oyster color looked ivory on me. IT WAS PERFECT… I couldn’t believe this dress that I had only grabbed cause it was my size could possibly be the one!!!
Well a few weeks later I went shopping in baraboo, wi. I tried on MULTIPLE dresses and many were beautiful but i just kept thinking of this other dress. So on the way home i called there and we werent going to make it on time. They stayed open for me though!! We were there about 30min after they closed. I tried on the dress for my mother and future mother in law and their draws dropped. There were tears, oh my’s, and this is it!!
And now I can’t wait to wear this dress all day!!!!!
So ladies… try on ALL different styles.. you never know what you may fall in love with! dont limit yourself..
