So Mr.Blueberry Muffin ended up getting down on one knee and popping the question in the middle of a conversation. Yes I love to be spontaneous but such moments lead me to blurting out such graceful phrases as in, “oh so you are not surprising me with a dog?”… yes I know, FAIL!
Well seeing as the proposal was as spontaneous as it was and Mr. Blueberry Muffin knows how picky and offbeat I tend to be, we ended up looking for a ring together. After Mr. Blueberry Muffin got back from a short trip to Sweden we ventured out into the city to look for “the one”.
Six hours later we were grumbling and groaning. The rings were to traditional, too bulky, too simple, too futuristic, too expensive. We ended up visiting every jeweler in the city and every goldsmith (there are a lot in Freiburg) we could find but alas “the one” was not among the glittering and gleaming beauties we tried on.
At this point Mr. Blueberry Muffin was at his wits end and very hungry! He even offer to take out 10 loans in order to pay for a ring with a big rock as well as all the bells and whistles if I were to find it within the next hour. I tried to assure him that this would not be necessary and that “the one” was out there waiting for us.. for me? … for my finger!
As we headed down a street that once housed all the cobblers in Freiburg, we stopped by a small shop belonging to one of the many goldsmiths in the city. I scanned the window the get a feel for the style of rings that were made there and was surprised when Mr. Blueberry Muffin gasped (in a manly way) and pulled over to the right side of the window.
There it was! A simple but intricate gold ring with some diamonds to accentuate the swoops and loops that made up the ring. That feeling of everything falling into place and that another puzzle piece had been found, was there again!
*** About the ring: Freiburg and southern Germany in general are famous for their white wine vineyards. Mr. Blueberry Muffin and I are big Wine and Champagne fans and so what better way than to start our life together with a symbol that reflects the grape vines of Freiburg?
