When we signed our contract with the reception vendor we agreed to have our menu choices color coded so the servers would be able to easily identify who ordered what entree and how many there were per table. In theory I didn’t think it would be that difficult to come up with something. Unfortunately being the nerd that I am nothing seemed to be creative enough or have enough pop to really add to the expectations I had apparently set for these place cards.
I walked around Michael’s for about an hour one day and wandered into the fake flower aisle. Fortunately I had sat down with our florist a couple weeks before so I had an idea of what flowers we were going to be using for our centerpieces. As I wandered aimlessly I stumbled upon some orchid stems, hydrangea stems and huge calla lily stems. I was slightly disappointed that the calla lily stems weren’t working for me but decided to ask one of the ladies if she had any suggestions for smaller ones and she pointed me to not exactly what I was looking for at the time but ended up being perfect once it all came together!
Of course this ended up being one of those ideas that sounded so amazing in my head and with all the supplies in hand seemed like a breeze but in reality was somewhat time consuming (I’ve been very good at those with my DIY wedding projects). Thankfully my mom, grandma and sister (MOH) helped me out or I may still be working on them up until the wedding!
I came up with the blue hydrangeas and blue ribbon for the beef option:
The green/yellow orchid and yellow ribbon for the chicken:
The calla lily and the green ribbon for the fish option:
And these fun colored gems for the childrens entree:
I am so excted with how well they turned out and I think they are going to work so nicely with our centerpieces that I had to share the final product. My mom graciously hand wrote all the names on there so it gave it a more personal touch.
It took me a long time to come up with some inspiration for an idea that worked for me so I wanted to share with anyone else who is lacking inspiration in the place cards. We did 215 total and it took us about 8 hours (4 of us). We took a short break in the middle of the day to enjoy the sun and get some tubing in so give or take an hour on the total time.
