We had a beach themed wedding so a treasure chest for us was perfect. I got an unfinished chest at Joann Fabrics with a coupon. My husband torched it a little to give it a worn look around all of the hinges and edges and cut a slot in the top. I woodburned the calligraphy style H on it for our last name inital. Then I stained it and spray sealed it. I made a lock out of black leather and wired it to the front hinge. Our caterer used some shell garland I got from Oriental Trading on top. I also made a fun pirate-y sign to go with it. You can’t see in picture but it was stuck in a cork in a glass bottle with a rolled up parchement inside – message in a bottle style.

Haha, awesome! Thanks! So does yours, I like your burlap idea. I saw these on etsy originally but figured I’m crafty and ‘thrifty’ so could do it myself, lol.

Cheeks923 – I freehand drew with a pencil the H on there using a picture from the internets as a guide. I burned over the pencil outline using a woodburning tool. I got mine at Joann’s with a coupon, I think it was about $12.00 all in all for a set that includes a plastic storage box and some different tips. I had gotten the tool a few years ago for a different project.
hisbahamamama – Thanks! My husband was actually very helpful and always willing or asking if he could. 🙂 Yes we are keeping it forevers, and putting our wedding cards and such in there!
rachaelp – I mixed Minwax brand red mahogany #225 with colonial maple #223. I did not want it to dark brown and not too red, and mixing those seemed to get the right shade. I don’t know what ratio I used though, sorry!
KimmySumShuga – Thank you!
