I originally wanted my flower girl to carry a pomander and had purchased a styrofoam ball before asking her to be my flower girl. She was VERY excited and showed me her petal tossing skills! I couldn’t tell her she wouldn’t be tossing petals, so, I had to figure out how to not waste the pomander and to let her toss petals.
FI cut the top 1/3 off of the ball and hallowed it out. This wasn’t an easy task because the styrofoam is very hard. He also drilled a hole in the bottom. Yes, he used a power drill to make a hole in styrofoam, he was excited.
I then glued the end of my ribbon near the hole and proceeded to wrap the ribbon around the ball, going through the hole each time.
I glued the ribbon near the hole after every 3-4 passes and used a lot of glue to finish it off so nothing would unravel.
I then took the fake rose petals I purchased to line the aisle and inserted them between the ribbons, which created a rose effect. I had no idea this would happen, it just worked out that way! I could only fit about 10-15 petals in the shallow basket, so that’s why I decided to slip them in between the ribbons, it holds a lot more!
I bought some adhesive pearls and butterflies from Michaels and stuck them all over it. Then I used the extra ribbon to create a bow and some long pieces to hang down and hot glued them to the bottom.
After it was finished, I decided it’s a little gaudy, but my FG will LOVE it. Instead of making a handle for it, she will just wrap one arm around it and use her other hand to pick out the petals.
