Two possibilities come to mind:

1. Soften it up by adding a wide silky ribbon in ivory or one of your wedding colors.  Tie it just like a present, and make a big floppy bow on top.  Place the candle in the center on top of the bow, or if that’s too wobbly, then move the bow off-center so the candle can be centered like you have it in the picture.  You could even keep those pastel beads on the candle if the bow is a pastel color to match.

2. Use the space inside as a slot to hold menus, programs, or music requests and pencils.  That’ll make it seem more like a functional piece than a modern art statement.  Just make sure you cover the entire top of it so it doesn’t look box-like.  Top it with a poofy flower wreath, or drape a small place cloth over it and arrange three candles of different styles and heights on top.

Good luck!

You could wrap the wooden part with fabric of any color – a way to change the wood part without ruining it – and then put the candle back in the top section. Or you could buy a larger, flameless candle and use that instead.

I like the idea of using the open space as something functional. Or you could just put flowers under there to make it feel a little more lighter.
